RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION
Growing and strengthening our workforce
Maintaining a strong and high-performing workforce is at the heart of our mission to build healthy communities. Yet in recent years, a national workforce shortage has made it difficult to hire and retain the health care providers, technicians and professional staff needed to fill open positions in our health system. To meet this challenge, we are thinking differently about our workforce and implementing innovative solutions to develop, nurture and retain top talent.
In 2023, UVM Health Network was recognized as a national leader in workforce development, winning the CareerSTAT Frontline Healthcare Worker Champion Award. The award highlights organizations that create good jobs and build equitable places to work through an innovative assortment of career training and continuing education programs that serve both employees and members of the community.
In partnership with local colleges, we are growing our own workforce by investing in educational and training programs, while providing financial support, to help current employees and people in our community train for much-needed positions in our health system.
We are strengthening our recruitment programs to attract, engage and recruit high-quality and diverse candidates.
We are building a great place to work for all our employees, offering nationally competitive benefits and wages while supporting our staff with professional development, training and education opportunities, personalized mental health care services and flexible working arrangements.
We are helping to alleviate the housing shortage in our region through the development of two new housing units, while exploring additional opportunities to invest in high-quality housing and childcare for our employees.
